Egmore Channai
Egmore is one of the base stations in the city of Chennai. The Egmore region is located close to the city center George Town, less than kilometres from it. The suburbs constitutes one of the popular commercial centres rooted in the city. The Chennai Egmore Railway Station, together with Chennai Central Railway Station are two main entry points in the regions and the epicenters of the vast railway network that connects the city. The regions lying adjacent to the Egmore locality include Nungambakkam, George Town and Triplicane.

Egmore locality bears quite an importance following the resources contained within the suburbs. The locality features some important tourist attractions and a thriving trade and commerce centre. The Government Museum is a card-carrying institute in the city. Founded in the year 1851 A.D., the museum displays some great pieces of art and architecture. The National Arts Gallery, an integral part of the Government Museum, attracts tourists throughout the Indian sub continent.

The Egmore Railway Station presents more of an architecture rather than a typical halt station. The building of the station has been built in Indo-Sarcenic style, which makes it noteworthy. The name of the person associated with the popularity of the railway station is none other than Robert Chisolm.

Egmore region hoses some of the best educational institutes of Chennai, especially women's colleges. Women's Christian College (W.C.C.), Good Shepherd Convent, Ethiraj College for Women are some accredited institutes in the locality. In the vicinity of W.C.C. stands the famous structure of Directorate of Public Instruction.

The city suburbs, as has been already mentioned, is a great commercial hub. Hotels, shopping complexes, hospitals and clubs are important establishments that bear the scene of activities. Some of these popular establishments include Hotel Taj Connemara, Wellington Club, Madras Eye Hospital, Corporation Stadium, etc.

  • Egmore lies a little south west of Chennai city center and is easily accessible by road. The distance between these two important suburbs is less than 3 kms.
  • The Chennai Egmore Railway Station is one of the two base stations in the city. The railway services connects the region with the city suburbs and districts beyond.
  • Chennai Airport, the nearest one to Egmore is, however, little farther. The distance from the airport to Egmore is approximately 13 kms.
