Pozhal is a small township located in the city of Chennai. The
place constitutes one of the industrial areas in the northern
premises of the capital city of Tamil Nadu, Chennai. The township is
connected to other parts of the city by the Great Northern Trunk
Road that proceeds further towards Nellore, a district of Tamil Nadu
state. The eastern boundary of Pozhal is restricted by the Pozhal
Lake.
Pozhal is primarily an industrial area. There are no monuments or
historical places in Pozhal. Whatever the suburb has to present
constitutes of the industrial estates and residential places. The
region is provided with a number of manufacturing units. Eveready
Ware House, one of the credited battery manufacturers are rooted in
this area. One other renowned name in the region is that of Southern
Indi Corporation. Few other notorious enterprises dealing in milling
and grinding tools and machinery parts, also have their bases in the
suburbs. The Nagappa Industrial Estate that lies off the Great
Northern Trunk Road is quite popular in the vicinity.
The region features many residential areas like Kannappasamy Nagar,
MGR Nagar, Balaji Nagar and Moorthy Nagar. The entire township has
few roads and for commutation Red Hills Road and Great Northern Road
are the most convenient ones.
Accessibility
- Pozhal lies some 7 kms from the George Town city center. By
taking Erun Kancheri Road, which proceeds as Great Northern
Trunk Road one can reach the township. Buses and taxis from the
city center are available.
- One can drop at the Villivakkam Railway Station and hire a
taxi from that place to reach Pozhal. Pozhal is about 4 kms far
from the place.
- The Chennai Airport, which is the nearest, lies south of
Pozhal and about 18 kms from the it.
