Purasavakkam, a small locality in the city of Chennai, falls
in the northern premises. Chennai, the capital of Tamil Nadu state
abodes a number of important places. Purasavakkam in Chennai
constitutes one of the many residential areas and as such features a
number of colonies. In a literal sense the place does not contain
any monuments or architectural wonders. However, as an integral part
of the city, the place bears the same impressions as the rest of the
parts.
Purrasavakkam is inhabited by a population who are topographically
scattered into various colonies. Some known places in the region
include those of T.N.H.B.(Tamil Nadu Housing Board) Colony,
A.K.Swamy Nagar, Secretariat Colony, Perumalpet and Kusapet.
The periphery of Purasavakkam is limited by the nearby roads. On
the eastern side we have Perambur Barracks Road, the western
frontiers are lined with Medavakkam Tank Road. The northern and
southern premises are limited by Strahans Road and Periyar Salai.
The entire region looks very much like an island that is separated
by a network of roads.
Purasavakkam features one of the commercial centres in the city
outskirts. The place witnesses a lot of commercial activities as is
common to most of the parts of the city. Heavy traffic on the roads,
people making haste to reach offices, shops lining up the streets
and vendors busy in attracting the people, is a common scene at
Purasavakkam. The region is equipped with numerous enterprises that
provide the necessary facilities to the resident population.
Accessibility
- Purasavakkam lies to the east of the city center which is
taken to be the George Town suburban area. The place is some 3
kms from the city center and connected by roadways.
- The Perambur Railway Station is in vicinity, not more than 3
kms, and provides access by train.
- The nearest airport to the place is that of the Chennai
Airport. The airport is about 12 kms and falls to the south west
of Purasavakkam.
