Tiruvallur

Tiruvallur
Tiruvallur is a small town neighboring the capital of Tamil Nadu state, Chennai. Tiruvallur is located towards the north west of Chennai city and is surrounded by other important districts of the Tamil Nadu state like Vellore and Kancheepuram. The region exists as irregular stretches of land that marks the boundary of the Chennai metropolitan city. The town is connected to the popular city by rail and road networks. Some recent developments relating to the large scale establishment of industries in the town has made it quite popular.

History
The history of Tiruvallur is quite analogous to that of Chennai. The place bears some remarkable impressions left by the Pallavas who ruled these parts, as early as 7th century A.D. The power South Indian dynasties came to an end with the fall of the Golconda rulers. The Mughal emperors defeated the local rulers in the year 1687 and established their rule over the lands. The last to occupy the lands were the British. The British took over the lands in the year 1825. But before this (British domination) the region had to bear Carnatic Wars that was fought between British and French troops. The British rule finally ended with the independence of India.

Attractions
Tiruvallur, like any other district of Tamil Nadu, is provided with some splendid temples. Temples like Arulmigu Subramaniya Swami Temple, Devi Karumariamman Temple, Murrugan Temple, Veeraraghava Perumal Temple are some of the famous worshipping places in the town. Besides marvelous temples the region also features many industrial estates that have gained great momentum and importance in the recent years. The Ambattur region that lies close to the Chennai city outskirts is considered as one of the largest small scale industrial estates in the whole of South Asia. Some other tourist destinations in the region include Poonamallee, Pazhayanur, Poondi Reservoir and Pulicat Boating Centre.
