Central Railway Station, as the name suggests is the primary
railway station in Chennai city. The railway station forms the landing
base to the travellers coming from the other cities and states. Central
Railway Station as such provides services to longer distances, the ones
beyond the territories of Chennai. The building of the said railway
station is in itself an attraction. The railway station is run by the
central agency that is Southern Railways.
Some characteristic features of the railway station include a total of
14 platforms that include both long distance and sub urban services,
comfortable retiring rooms, baggage halls, eateries, a multitude of
shops selling magazines and books, cassettes, compact discs, medicine
and other supplies. The station is lined up with ATM counters, Internet
cafes and food stalls. Many super fast trains ply from the region. Some
popular trains reaching the station include Chennai-New Delhi Grand
Trunk Express, Chennai New Delhi Tamil Nadu Express, Chennai-Bangalore
Brindavan Express, Chennai Mysore Express, Mumbai Express,
Chennai-Hyderabad Charminar Express.
