Egmore Railway Station :
Egmore Railway Station is one major railway station in Chennai,
the other being Central Railway Station. It is more than a halt station
and is known to provide services to a number of cities and towns
adjoining the city. Egmore Railway Station caters to the northern and
western suburbs and several districts neighboring the city. The railway
station, much to the surprise, features Indo Sarcenic building style.
The railway station thus adds to the delight of architects and tourists
who find it quite interesting. The building was designed by Robert
Chisholm and consists of some illustrious domes very typical of the
buildings built by Mughal rulers. Egmore Railway Station was built in 1906 and since than the railway station has expanded and extended its services to manifolds. Some important trains housed by the station include Guwahati Express, Jodhpur Express, Jan Shatabdi Express, Nagercoil Express, Pearl City Express and Anantapuri Express. The railway station has a number of tourist attractions in its vicinity. Museum Archives, Connemera Library and Radhakrishan Sports Stadium are some popular place around.
